Homework

July 28, 2008

Yesterday we scoped out the locale for our upcoming wedding in August. For all of you brides who are feeling stressed out about your wedding, listen to this…. our bride is having TWO weddings back-to-back! The first is a traditional American ceremony at a winery, and the second is a traditional Chinese wedding, with more than 800 guests! Talk about a busy weekend! Rob and I definitely have our hands full, shooting a double with the same bride. Thank goodness she’s a sweetheart, and super laid-back!! Even I would get tired of having a lens in my face for two straight days.

Here’s a peek at the Winery. The Chinese wedding location is a closely guarded secret ( translation-I dont have any pictures of it yet):

My little helper snuck into a photo or two… he’s going to be an awesome photographer some day!

Yosemite Valley. You could look at a thousand pictures and never know what it feels like to be standing next to a 4000 foot tall granite wall. Its….. amazing. It just makes you feel small and insignificant for a moment, and its a cool feeling, especially for city folk like me. Rob and I decided to take the scenic route, driving through small towns and windy roads instead of a dull freeway trip on cruise control. bleh. It was quite an adventure, worthy of its own blog entry, but this one is dedicated to my longtime friend and ex-dance partner Mishell, and her new hubby Christian.

They fell in love with Yosemite after their first visit, and I dont blame them! Nature on that scale is intoxicating. While Rob hung back in Camp 4 to goof around with the guys and get some cool shots, I left camp before dawn to meet the girls at Revive Salon in Oakhurst, about 90 mins of windy -fun- roads. The pros at Revive wasted no time, and had the girls looking beautiful in no time!

After the Salon, we went to Mishells quaint and well decorated motel room for a quick-yet-precise makeup session. This part never ceases to amaze me… I could never stick a pencil that close to my eyeball without freaking out! Of course, the girls looked great, and after getting dressed up we jetted off to the Valley to get this girl hitched!

Once we arrived, we kicked it into high gear, had a beautiful ceremony with two waterfalls in the background, and an intimate reception at a neaby beach.

I would lke to offer my congratualtions to the beautiful couple. Thanks so much for letting Dave and I record your wedding day. Thank you to Christian for making me feel very welcome at the campground and to both of you for making our job enjoyable.

Christian and Mishell made this easy for us by being a fantastic couple… the surroundings didn’t hurt either…. Being in Yosemite and doing what I love to do made my Summer! Thanks again, Christian and Mishell for letting Dave and I be a part of it.

This saturday I had the pleasure and honor of recording a different kind of important day…a baptism of two gorgeous models! Nona and Rosie were some of my best models ever!

Rosie!

Nona!

This was the first baptism I’ve attended/shot, and overall, it was a worthwhile experience! I’ve never attended a Sunday Mass at a Catholic Church before either, so I had a couple of “firsts” today.

Catholic churches are notorious for being beautiful, and this one has some awesome stained glass windows on all sides, and light was pouring through them from the afternoon sun. It was very difficult not to take photos during mass, since there was so many interesting things happening all around me… but hey, rules are rules!

We were able to get some shots done before the ceremony, which was nice, especially, with the huge wooden doors providing a backdrop. Once Mass was done, the Baptism went smoothly, and the reception at the familys house was nice, with a delicious looking cake!!! A big thank you goes out to my friends Reyna and Noah for letting me record and be a part of an important family event, and for making such a cute baby!
